Walk on Water by Thirty Seconds to Mars

This song is like my “outro theme” or anthem for the end of my 2017…I made some big choices without certain safety nets in places because it was a gut/faith move I felt deep in my soul that it was the right thing to do and that I would be ok as long as I walked in faith. I heard this song a couple days after my plans set in motion and I’ve been playing it on loop ever since. It’s a powerful song, gorgeous male voices, powerful percussion and chanting war cries that dare to run towards the future I want with arms outstretched, no turning back. And I’m pumped.

I believe I can win this fight tonight.

Off to the Races by Lana Del Rey (NSFW)

Lana Del Rey has been a favorite of mine for over six years. Her sound is so addictive and different and intoxicating. I recently rediscovered my love for this song when I put in the CD album of her album from the library into my new car’s CD player and it started playing. I’m listening to it on repeat right now going to work and back because I just absolutely love the beat, her voice, the unique energy.

The Regulator by Clutch

Ahhhhhhhh heck yes a nice little throwback for me when I first watched The Walking Dead and this was used in an early season. I’ve loved it ever since. Just heck yes. Those guitar twangs. The plodding rhythm. The deep dark vocals. And the energy just grows and grows as the song goes on. It’s awesome. This would be on my playlist if I had to face a zombie apocalypse.

Trailer Music || Exodus: Gods and Kings

Firstly, this is fantastic music for a trailer. It hits all the right notes perfectly. I get chills almost every single time I listen to this song. It’s so haunting and grows to such an epic sound by its end. I love it so much. I also hold it very dear to my heart because it’s brought much of my own writing to vivid life in my imagination, more so than a lot of other songs. That sounds so dramatic, but as a writer, I cling to whatever can do that for me. I can see imagery of my own fantasies, vividly, to this piece of music. I just love that.

Echoes in Rain by Enya

Like with most artists, I always LOVE a select few from their discography and feel “meh” or unattached to the rest of it. Enya is one of those artists for me, I love a select few of her songs. This is one of them. It’s fairly new but it’s so peaceful and plucky! I listened to this a lot during a college math class so it reminds me of that a lot!

Amaranth by Nightwish (Orchestra Vs Original)

As a young teenager, I remember the thrill of discovering Amaranth, my first favorite metal song, for the first time: it was raw, harsh, sweet, and aggressive all at the same time. I absolutely loved it. I still know almost all the words by heart and my body knows every beat to dance to. It’s just such a great song.

Interestingly enough, not long after I discovered it, I heard an orchestra version of the same song, and wow. It’s so different…and yet STILL SO GOOD…just in another way. The heavy electric guitar is replaced by a chorus of angelic voice and harps and strings and brass. It’s a phenomenal version to an already awesome song and yet it changes it in so many ways. I absolutely LOVE the comparison!

I think every single person can listen to these two songs, at least like one of them. I’m slightly partial to the metal version still, but only by a bit.
