Phantom by BLVCK CEILING

Don’t underestimate this song when it starts out; it might be tinkly piano and apprehension to begin with. Then that beat drops. This piece has become a personal favorite of mine when I heard it because it brought the villain to my long-time ongoing novel series to life in a fresh way that I hadn’t heard before. I can hear my character anew in this song; between the anxiety and delicate emotion of fear and the steady angry heavy beat of reckless choices and hate. Of the many ways music works in my head, bringing characters to life like this is maybe my favorite way.

Magic Knight Rayearth OST

I stumbled over this piece of magic on complete accident, searching for another anime soundtrack. It blew me once it hit the 30-second mark. Just oh my gosh! I absolutely love the strings and horns and wind instruments! It’s so upbeat and chirpy, yet regal with its use of classical instruments! It makes me so happy and almost nostalgic somehow to listen to it. It reminds me of some Studio Ghibli soundtracks somehow. Love love love it!

Something Just Like This by The Chainsmokers & Coldplay

The words in this song really struck me, besides just the amazing addictive music. ❤ I love the guitar bits later into the song, and the beat absolutely grabs me.

“I’m not looking for somebody with superhuman gifts, some superhero, some fairytale bliss; just something I can turn to, somebody I can miss, I want somebody just like this.”

Returning by Ryan Taubert (emotional music)

I found this saved my “watch later” playlist on YouTube and I’m so glad I got to revisit it. It’s first half is warm, soothing, and slow with some very gentle piano and strings. Then the second half comes in, still warm, but also full of light and hopeful and joyous. We hear an oriental influence in the melody and the tempo and beat picks up dramatically. It’s such a joy to hear the transistions in the sound. It’s truly an emotional piece! ❤
