Don’t underestimate this song when it starts out; it might be tinkly piano and apprehension to begin with. Then that beat drops. This piece has become a personal favorite of mine when I heard it because it brought the villain to my long-time ongoing novel series to life in a fresh way that I hadn’t heard before. I can hear my character anew in this song; between the anxiety and delicate emotion of fear and the steady angry heavy beat of reckless choices and hate. Of the many ways music works in my head, bringing characters to life like this is maybe my favorite way.
Lana Del Rey has been a favorite of mine for over six years. Her sound is so addictive and different and intoxicating. I recently rediscovered my love for this song when I put in the CD album of her album from the library into my new car’s CD player and it started playing. I’m listening to it on repeat right now going to work and back because I just absolutely love the beat, her voice, the unique energy.
My boyfriend and I have been playing Path of Exile together since the beginning of 2017; being a long distance couple has led to a search for things to play together online when we skype, as a way to interact together when we’re so physically apart. We’ve loved playing the online multiplayer fantasy game Path of Exile together, and I discovered it’s incredibly interesting soundtrack.
They’re often very long tracks and very atmospheric, but it you’re a writer like me, that’s great news. I love songs that aren’t too short, that you can get lost in. This is one of my favorite tracks so far. It’s eery, heavy, and dark, yet uses enough percussion to keep the beat steady and engaging. I love how tingling this track sounds; you can taste the smog in the air and feel a growing apprehension build. Then it softens out towards the end, mellowing and quiet, yet still eery and sad. It delicious.
Ahhhhhhhh heck yes a nice little throwback for me when I first watched The Walking Dead and this was used in an early season. I’ve loved it ever since. Just heck yes. Those guitar twangs. The plodding rhythm. The deep dark vocals. And the energy just grows and grows as the song goes on. It’s awesome. This would be on my playlist if I had to face a zombie apocalypse.
I first heard this in the background of a live Pewdiepie stream video (haha) that I wasn’t necessaily paying attention to. And the music made its way into my brain and I freaked out. I later used my Shazam app to detect what song it was and having been playing it on repeat ever since. I absolutely love it, between the airy atmosphere and the dark brooding rap. The bounce; the melody; the darkness: it all hits the right notes for me. It’s songs like that these that keep me open minded to any music genre. I also like the instrumental version almost as much, too, which is below.
I only just became aware of Korean Hip Hop within the last week and I’m so curious to explore more if it sounds like this. I’m already a huge KPop fan after all. I love how much darker hip hop can be however. I just discovered this song and I LOVE it. I love the female singer and the song’s rhythm. It’s so dark and twisted sounding!
